HP Pavilion

HP Pavilion dv5t review

The HP Pavilion dv5t looks great with a very beautiful and solid design, making it arguably one of the best laptops of 2008. HP redesigned their laptop line with the HP Pavilion dv5t and it makes other laptops look quite old-fashioned. Aside from a very fast processor, it has a very nice 15.4" display and an integrated video card, which means that playing video games should be no problem on this laptop.

Because it is an Entertainment laptop, the design of the dv5t is very modern and sleek, and it comes in two colors - silver and black. It has a glossy finish which HP calls as "liquid metallic." The 15.4 inch widescreen display is perfect for watching movies.

In terms of the design and build quality only, it can already be considered as one of the best laptops. One point to make though: because of the glossy finish, the laptop gets fingerprint marks easily. The laptop also has heat issues, and the laptop can become quite warm when used for gaming and other intensive applications.

But there's more to the laptop than meets the eye. The fast Core 2 Duo processors, large hard disk space and generous RAM mean that it can be used well for productivity. Aside from the usual ports, the dv5t gives itself an edge with an HDMI port which means that one can connect the laptop to an HDTV and watch high-definition quality movies.

Overall, HP has made a very solid laptop that performs very well and is unique in many aspects. Its discrete video card means that the laptop can be used more than just watching movies. Despite the heat issue, it is easy to see why many people thought this was one of the best laptops of 2008.
